Our Story
Panama Surf School has a rich history dating back to 2005, founded by Flor Villareal, a passionate surfer from Mar del Plata. Arriving in Panama on a sailboat in 2000, she discovered El Palmar, the ideal beach for surfing, suitable for all skill levels. Initially, she welcomed students to her own home, sharing experiences and teaching the basics of surfing. As more students arrived, the first instructors joined the surf project.
In 2003, “ Tao was born, who became my greatest inspiration.” In 2009, we relocated from La Punta to 4th Street in El Palmar, where PANAMA SURF SCHOOL was officially founded. Since then, we have continued to transmit and share our passion for surfing, turning it into a beautiful life adventure!
Tao is now an accomplished surfer, winning national and international championships and earning titles such as National Under 18 Champion, National Open Runner-up, and Pan-American Junior Champion. We had the opportunity to witness the actual progress of a professional surfer in front of our eyes, and we are fortunate to have Tao at certain times of the year when he joins the PANAMA SURF SCHOOL team to give surf lessons, coaching, and share his life’s dream.”

Panama Surf School is deeply connected to the local surf culture, reflecting the authentic vibe of the Panamanian coastal community. As our school has grown, so has our team of instructors, a diverse group with a genuine passion for surfing.
Over time, we’ve expanded our language capabilities to include English, Spanish, and French. Our instructors are here to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome, ensuring that language is never a barrier to enjoying Panama’s coastline’s waves and beauty. - Actively promote proper waste disposal and recycling practices among our staff and students, aiming to minimize our ecological footprint and contribute to a cleaner environment.
- To reduce the waste of water and electricity.
- To conduct regular beach cleanups, removing plastic, debris, and waste to maintain the pristine condition of our coastal areas.
- We offer a relaxed environment to help you make the most of your surf day, complete with umbrellas, showers, restrooms, changing rooms, healthy meals, a small surf shop, and free parking.
